Some Powers Want Pakistan To Remain Under FATF Sword, Says Shah Mahmood Qureshi

Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, on Saturday questioned the decision of the terror financing watchdog. The Foreign Minister accused FATF of being a political forum rather than being a technical one. In a press statement, he stated the reason behind retention of Pakistan in the grey list and said “Some powers desire to keep the sword of FATF hanging over Pakistan.”

He further said that Pakistan had already complied 26 with points out of the 27 technical recommendations, whereas substantial progress is being made on the remaining one. We know that FATF lauded Pakistan’s progress and announced to keep the country in its grey list until the implementation on the remaining one item; said the foreign minister.

He justified that there was no room to retain Pakistan on the grey list despite implementation on 26 points. He assured that Pakistan is taking the necessary steps in its own interests to tackle the FATF recommendations.
