After a long series of blame games, opposed geo-political strategic interests and changing alliances, the Pakistan-US relationship has finally come to a point where Pakistan may cancel all their agreements with the US and NATO. As the US continues troop withdrawal from Afghanistan with Pakistan’s assistance in the preceding peace deal, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership remain alert so that the peace agreement remains unbroken and 20 years of conflict in Afghanistan comes to an end.
Despite being America’s facilitator in the peace deal, Pakistan had no support from the US in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting. Due to what Islamabad perceives as US back-stabbing, Pakistan remains in the FATF Grey list. Even after extending no support to Pakistan in FATF and refusing to acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices in the American war on terror, the US still had the audacity to demand drone bases in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s civil and military leadership have repeatedly denied the US requests for a drone base in Pakistan. Furthermore, the US has been pressurising Pakistan to cut ties with China and join the Western camp instead. As per sources, the US will create another situation, leaving two options for Pakistan—you are either with the US or against the US, with no third option left for Pakistan.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has clearly stated that Pakistan will be a US ally in peace, not conflict. According to sources, if Pakistan faces another situation where they are forced to join the US in its international conflicts, then Pakistan may cancel all previous agreements with the US and NATO, creating a new block involving China and Russia.
