Syed Ali Shah Geelani Laid To Rest Wrapped In Pakistani Flag

The icon of Kashmiri resistance, Syed Ali Raza Geelani, born on September 29, 1929, passed away peacefully on 1st September 2021 at the age of 91. Syed Ali Shah Geelani was the founder of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, a political party for Kashmir’s freedom from illegal Indian occupation.

Previously, Syed Ali Shah Geelani was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir, where he started his struggle for Kashmir’s freedom. His struggle for the Kashmiri people made him well known and his existence was a threat to India’s illegal annexation.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani had spent 11 years under house arrest and he was denied medical aid, but he kept struggling despite being a heart and kidney patient. He always loved Pakistan and several times he claimed “I am a Pakistani and Pakistan is mine”.

Indian occupation forces have imposed curfews in different areas of occupied Kashmir to resist the people from attending Geelani’s funeral. Numerous Hurriyat leaders were also taken into custody by occupation forces. Yet many people attended the funeral of veteran resistance leader and his body was wrapped in a Pakistani flag.
