Pakistan’s victory over India in the recent T20 World Cup match has caused a stir among the Indians. So far, seven people have been booked and 4 have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police for supporting and celebrating Pakistan’s victory.
The cricket match held on October 24th between the two arch-rivals has been a hot topic since then. However, the Indian authorities got enraged over the fans who were showing their support for the Pakistani team and raised anti-India slogans. The incident led to the registration of FIRs against the people and four of them have been arrested so far.
The Chief Minister of UP has also passed a statement saying that sedition law will be invoked against those celebrating Pakistan’s victory. The ones arrested include a private school teacher in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, and three engineering students from Raja Balwant Singh Management Technical Campus for posting objectionable statements on social media, as well as for raising anti-national slogans.
The important sections under which the arrests were conducted include sections 153 A, 66 F, 505 (1)(B) because of cyber terrorism, promoting enmity between different groups, and for an act that is likely to cause fear or alarm in the public.
