Being Grateful Improves Blood Pressure, Claims American Research Center

A recent study has revealed that optimistic people have a slightly higher rate of gratitude and as a physical effect, blood pressure stays under control and heart rate improves.

A report published in the research journal Emotion states that the scientists used an app called MyBP Lab. 4825 people downloaded this app on their phone which can take blood pressure notes and also heart rate count. The study included people from the United States, Australia, India and Hong Kong.

All volunteers were also given an optical sensor that monitored the blood flow and volume inside the human skin. Then an algorithm inside the phone detected blood pressure. A bandage was also applied to the arm for correct blood pressure.

All participants provided details about their sleep, exercise, daily expectations, and thoughts three times a day from 15 March 2019 to 8 December 2020. They were also asked to rate 12 sentences. For example, “I am happy with my full life,” or “In unfavorable circumstances, I expect better than usual.”

Research has shown that grateful and optimistic people have a positive effect on people throughout the day and that such people have better blood pressure and better heart rate.

According to psychologists, the spirit of gratitude for other people and the spirit of hope satisfies man internally. The study was conducted by experts from the University of Michigan. Interestingly, good emotions such as giving thanks and hope also improve human sleep.
