IHC Orders Action Against Military Encroachments On Margalla Hills

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered capital authorities to seal Monal Restaurant and seize the Margalla Greens Golf Club built on encroached land. The court also declared illegal, the military’s claim to 8,000 acres of Margalla Hills National Park.

Athar Minallah, Chief Justice of IHC, issued the order while hearing a case related to encroachments in the national park. The Judge said that the court will protect the wider public interest.

As part of the hearing, the climate change secretary called for the public release of Islamabad’s master plan.

According to Justice Minallah, all the rules apply to the three wings of the military, and he asked whether they were being followed.

Additionally, he questioned whether Pakistan Air Force constructions were approved by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

CDA officials sealed the restaurant in accordance with the judge’s instructions.

Moreover, The Environment Protection Agency has also been directed to report damages caused to the national park as a result of construction.

In other orders, the IHC ordered the CDA to assume control of Margalla Greens Golf Club today. To ensure compliance with the IHC’s orders, the defense secretary was instructed to ensure that the armed forces’ three wings did not undertake any illegal construction.
