By-elections for the constituency, NA-33, Hangu were held on Saturday to fill the vacant seat. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Nadeem Khayal took part in the by-election after the seat fell vacant due to the death of his father, Haji Khayal Zaman, former MNA from NA-33 constituency. PTI candidate Nadeem Khayal won by a good margin.
Nadeem Khayal had announced that he would resign from the seat even if he wins the by-elections due to the decision of PTI leadership to resign from the National Assembly amid political turmoil in the country. Nadeem Khayal did not even take part in the election campaign after his announcement to resign.
Despite his announcement, people reached the polling stations and voted for Nadeem Khayal. PTI won this seat with a margin of 728 votes in 2018. However, in the by-elections, PTI won by a margin of 2528 votes against the Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) candidate.
PTI candidate’s overwhelming victory despite his announcement and the political turmoil in the country is an indication that the majority of the public has rejected the current government and still supports former Prime Minister Imran Khan after his ouster from the Prime Minister’s Office.
