Pakistan Railways To Deploy Lady Railway Police Force (LRPF) In Trains After A Woman Gang Raped During Travelling

A woman was gang-raped by train workers on May 27 while traveling from Multan to Karachi on Bahauddin Zakriya Express. According to the details, the woman was raped by three men.

An FIR was filed at the Railways Police Station under sections 377 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. As per Pakistan Railways, the accused persons were arrested.

After this incident, the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Implementation Unit (SRIU) directed Pakistan Railways to tighten security protocols for the safety of female passengers. SRIU has also directed Pakistan Railways to deploy Lady Railway Police Force (LRPF) in trains. A lady sub-inspector and two female constables will be deployed.

Other measures being taken for the safety of women in trains include Safer Saheli App, SOS buttons in trains, Video Surveillance System (VSS) at vulnerable locations, CCTV cameras, in bogies and corridors, and Face Recognition Camera (FRS) App.
