John Bolton, former National Security Advisor of the United States has admitted that he was involved in attempting planned coups to overthrow foreign governments.
John Bolton while speaking to CNN, said that the former US president Donald Trump was incapable of executing a “carefully planned coup d’etat,”. “As somebody who has helped plan coups d’etat, not here but you know (in) other places, it takes a lot of work. And that’s not what he (Trump) did”, he added.
In response, the CNN anchor Jake Tapper asked Bolton to specify which attempted coup he was referring to. Bolton, prior to mentioning Venezuala, replied that he was not going to get into the specifics.
“It turned out not to be successful. Not that we had all that much to do with it but I saw what it took for an opposition to try and overturn an illegally elected president and they failed,” said the former US NSA.
Bolton publicly endorsed the Venezuelan Opposition Leader Juan Guaido’s call for the military to support his efforts to oust Venezuelan socialist President Nicolas Maduro in 2019, arguing that Maduro’s reelection was illegitimate. In the end, Maduro remained in power.
CNN anchor said to Bolton, “I feel like there’s more you’re not telling me (beyond Venezuela),” to which Bolton replied: “I’m sure there is.”
