Action Should Be Taken Against Those Responsible For Allowing Illegal Constructions

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has urged that officials should be held accountable for allowing illegal constructions on riverbank in Swat following the disastrous collapse of many hotels by flash floods.

COAS visited the flood-affected areas in Swat in order to look after the evacuation process and relief operations. During his visit, he talked to the media in which he urged that legal action should be taken against the responsible officials for allowing illegal constructions.

He further said that the district administration, provincial government and the army will jointly conduct surveys for the assessment of losses because of the floods.

Moreover, General Bajwa talked about the severity of the damage caused. He said that there has been very serious damage to the constructions in Kalam valley.

General Bajwa quoted the previous similar disaster in Swat in the 2010 floods and said that the authorities have yet again shown negligence and allowed constructions on the vulnerable sites. “Legal action should be taken against those responsible”, he added.
