Mufti Tariq Masood, a renowned Islamic scholar and speaker from Karachi, has made it clear in an urgent announcement that he and other scholars with whom he had discussed the issue unanimously disagreed with the fatwa calling for the death of Eng. Muhammad Ali Mirza, another well-known Islamic scholar, speaker, and lecturer from Jhelum, Pakistan. Mufti Tariq Masood has previously criticized Eng. Muhammad Ali Mirza for his beliefs and called him arrogant and his behavior inappropriate as the two scholars follow different sects.
Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza had been accused of blasphemy in a case registered in his home town a few days earlier. After which Peer Afzal Qadri, a firebrand cleric and founder member of the far-right extremist group TLP, said that Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza deserved to die and that he should be killed by some volunteer. Qadri went on to announce 5 lakh rupees reward for anyone who kills Mirza
