Pakistani Neuroscientist, Dr Afia Siddiqui had been sexually assaulted twice during detention. US forces used sexual assault against Afia to force her to make confessions.
Human Rights activist and lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith revealed this in an interview with Geo News. Clive is representing Afia Siddiqui against the charges imposed on her.
In am interview with Geo News, Clive said that Pakistani government knew about both of the incidents. He added that Afia personally informed him about the events.
Clive said that he lodged a complaint against the sexual assaults, on Afia’s request.It was also revealed that Afia Siddiqui was raped in Bagaram Jail, in Afghanistan. US forces tried to cover calling it a coercive interrogation technique.
Monday, this week, her sister met her for only the second time since her arrest 20 years ago. The meeting took place in a prison hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
It was a 40 minutes meeting in which Senator Talha Mahmoud from Pakistan was also present. Clive in a tweet said that he was also present during the meeting. Clive in a tweet demanded the people of Pakistan to raise their voice for the Pakistani doctor.
Earlier Afia Siddiqui was supposed to meet her sister, Dr Fowzia on December 2nd and 3rd. However, the meeting was cancelled as US authorities claimed that they lost the Prison Key.
People in Pakistan demanded their government to bring Afia Siddiqui back to the country. However, still no significant progress has been made.
