Israeli Strikes in Southern Lebanon Kill Four, Journalists Among Injured

BEIRUT: At least four people were killed and several others, including journalists, were injured in Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon, according to the National News Agency (NNA), amid rising tensions despite a fragile ceasefire.

The report said an Israeli strike targeted a vehicle in the village of at-Tiri, killing two individuals. A subsequent air attack on the same area left multiple people wounded, including members of the media.

Israel’s military stated that it had struck two vehicles that had departed from a site allegedly linked to the armed group Hezbollah.

According to reports from southern Lebanon, two journalists from local outlet Al Akhbar — Amal Khalil and Zeinab Faraj — were caught in the attacks after arriving at the scene of the initial strike. Rescue efforts were hampered as ongoing air raids prevented emergency teams from reaching them for several hours.

Faraj was later transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition and is expected to undergo surgery, while Khalil’s status remains unclear.

The NNA also reported that Israeli forces targeted roads connecting the village to nearby areas, reportedly hindering ambulance access and delaying rescue operations.

Lebanon’s Information Minister Paul Morcos said authorities had contacted the United Nations peacekeeping mission and the Lebanese army following reports that journalists were effectively trapped in the area.

The latest violence underscores growing strain on an already tenuous ceasefire in the region.
