Man Who Prevented Suicide Attack Recommended for Highest Civil Award By CM Punjab

A man who sacrificed his life while reportedly preventing a suicide attack near the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border has been nominated for Pakistan’s highest civil award by Maryam Nawaz.

According to officials and local residents, Muhammad Liaqat Ali, an employee of Pakistan Railways, was grazing livestock near a police checkpost in the Jand area of Attock on Monday when he confronted a suspected suicide bomber.

Authorities said his intervention disrupted the attacker’s plan and helped prevent what could have been a major terrorist attack targeting the nearby police post.

Paying tribute to Liaqat Ali’s actions, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz described him as a true national hero who set an extraordinary example of courage and sacrifice for the country.

She announced that he would be recommended for Pakistan’s highest civil honour in recognition of his bravery and selflessness.

Shehbaz Sharif also praised the deceased for his patriotism and courage, saying the nation saluted his sacrifice and describing it as a symbol of unity in the fight against terrorism.

The funeral prayers for Liaqat Ali were held at Police Lines Attock, where a police contingent presented honours during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Hanif Abbasi expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that the government would continue to support them.

The railway minister also announced financial compensation of Rs8 million for the family of the deceased employee.

Muhammad Liaqat Ali is survived by his widow, two sons, and a daughter.
