Government Has Not Provided Any Convincing Evidence To Delay Elections, Says Chief Justice Of Pakistan

Supreme Court has reserved its verdict in the case related to the delay in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by-polls after hearing arguments from the Election Commission, PTI, and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan.

The government requested the formation of a full court to hear the case, which was denied by the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial. The PDM government sought the dismissal of the PTI petition based on its interpretation of a previous order issued by the apex court. During the hearing, Chief Justice Bandial stated that the Supreme Court’s hearing is in the public interest, and there is a difference of opinion among judges.

The top judge also addressed the issue of security, stating that it is essential, but the issue of forces is not only limited to the Army, but it also includes the Navy and Air Force, whose assistance can be sought if the Army is occupied with security matters.

Before the decision was reserved, Chief Justice of Pakistan made important remarks saying that the government has not provided any convincing evidence to delay elections.

It is to be remembered that according to the constitution elections are to he held within 90 days.
