COAS Asim Munir Reaffirms Resolve to Eliminate Terrorists Through Targeted Operations

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir on Thursday reaffirmed the country’s commitment to eliminating terrorism through precise, intelligence-driven operations, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

During an interaction with religious scholars in Rawalpindi, the army chief stressed that militant groups and their infrastructure would be targeted “wherever they may be,” underscoring Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism.

He also called on the Afghan Taliban to ensure that Afghan territory is not used for launching attacks against Pakistan, reiterating Islamabad’s long-standing demand for cross-border security cooperation.

The remarks come as Pakistan observes a temporary pause in Operation Ghazab Lil Haq during Eidul Fitr, a move taken following consultations with friendly Islamic countries.

Field Marshal Munir further highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Emphasising the role of religious leaders, he urged ulema to promote unity, tolerance, and social harmony, and to counter extremism and misinformation. He warned that religious sentiments must not be exploited to incite violence, adding that unrest in Pakistan triggered by external events would not be tolerated.

Participants at the meeting expressed support for peace and stability, strongly condemning violence carried out in the name of religion and pledging cooperation with law enforcement agencies to maintain order in the country.
