EU willing to use trade policy to pressurise Pakistan on blasphemy law issue

Swedish politician Charlie Weimers took on the floor of the European Union and stated that EU Parliament should review Pakistan’s blasphemy law, calling it a threat to freedom of expression. Charlie said Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan doesn’t want anyone to talk against their Prophet, while he is not defending human rights of his own citizens against accusers of blasphemy.

He further said that instead of protecting human rights, Prime Minister Imran Khan is equating criticism of Islamic Prophet with genocide done in holocaust. Few hours after his speech EU parliament expressed their concern on Pakistan’s blasphemy law and Imran Khan equating Holocaust denial law with blasphemy law. Some of the EU members are willing to use trade policy to pressurise Pakistan and force them to review blasphemy law.
