Pakistan Navy Launches Operation Muhafizul Bahr to Safeguard Maritime Security And Trade

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafizul Bahr to address potential threats to national shipping and maritime trade, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing said the operation was initiated in response to the evolving regional maritime security environment and concerns over possible disruptions to key sea lanes.

According to the statement, the operation aims to ensure the continuous flow of Pakistan’s energy supplies and safeguard critical sea lines of communication that support the country’s maritime trade.As part of the initiative, the Pakistan Navy has begun escort operations for merchant vessels in coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation.

The ISPR noted that naval authorities are closely monitoring the maritime situation and overseeing the movement of commercial ships to ensure their safe and secure transit through regional waters.Officials highlighted that nearly 90 percent of Pakistan’s trade is conducted through sea routes, making maritime security vital for the country’s economic stability.

The statement added that two merchant vessels are currently being escorted by Pakistan Navy ships under the operation.

The Pakistan Navy reaffirmed its readiness to respond to emerging maritime challenges and reiterated its commitment to protecting national shipping interests and regional maritime security.
