A few days ago the European Parliament passed a Resolution on the blasphemy laws in Pakistan, particularly referring to the case of Shagufta Kausar and Shafqat Emmanuel; a christian couple sentenced to death on blasphemy charges in 2014. The resolution, awaiting plenary debate/vote, calls for a review of the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus status granted to Pakistan by EU. Pakistan has been a major beneficiary of the trading opportunities offered by GSP since 2014.
Sources said that this move by European Union is politically motivated, backed by Israel, to make Pakistan implement their policy for a better trade package in the European markets.
As per sources, the EU may ask Pakistan to recognise Israel, just like some other Middle East countries, and establish diplomatic ties with them.
