National Assembly Of Pakistan Passes A Bill To Award Death Penalty To Rapists

After numerous rape cases over the years in Pakistan, the National Assembly has today finally passed the bill pertaining to the death sentence for rapists. Although some might view this as a very delayed and late decision, the optimistic view is that this grave issue is now receiving the attention it deserves.

There are at least 11 rape cases reported in Pakistan every day with over 22,000 rape cases reported to police across the country in the last six years. Prime Minister Imran Khan had also announced chemical castration for rapists a few months back, which was applauded by Pakistanis as a historic decision taken to counter rape cases.

People now rely on the judicial system to strictly judge the rapists and declare them guilty by announcing death sentences for them. Many rapists are declared non-guilty because of political affiliation or lack of witnesses, due to which victims are not given justice for this appalling and disgusting act that has scarred them for life. This decision taken by the National Assembly today should truly be appreciated by the public.
