Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a telephonic conversation in which they had discussed the need for a stable and sustainable bilateral relationship between Pakistan and the US. This Conversation took place right after Pakistan and China agreed to join hands with Afghan parties for political solution in Afghanistan and long lasting stability, While US is nowhere in this geo-political strategy of Pakistan, China and Afghan stakeholders.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken tweeted “We had a call to underscore our desire for a stable and sustainable bilateral relationship. I look forward to continuing cooperation on the Afghan peace process, tackling COVID-19, supporting regional stability, and other key issues.”
After 9/11 Pakistan is trying hard to build good relations with the US. Shah Mehmood Qureshi assured the US that Pakistan would remain a solid wellspring of peace in Afghanistan. Qureshi highlighted Pakistan’s obligation to forging a broad-based, long-term, and sustainable relationship with the United States that was secured in deep economic cooperation, regional connectivity, and peace in the region. He underlined Pakistan’s center on geo-economics aspects according to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and repeated the importance of enhancing economic, trade, and investment ties between Pakistan and the United States. Through the discussion, the FO said that Pakistan’s top representative highlighted the moves taken by Islamabad in “support of the Afghan peace process”.
