“The US military destroyed more than seventy aircrafts located at the Kabul airport before leaving the country”, said the US CENTCOM commanders.
American’s controlled blasts have destroyed Eagle base at Kabul Airport and were heard in whole Kabul. According to US officials, Eagle base was the final C.I.A outpost outside Kabul airport. Exploding the base was actually intended to ensure that none of the equipments or information will go in the hands of Taliban.
Local Afghanis didn’t know much about the Eagle base. Compound was really safe and was designed to avoid anyone’s entrance in it. There were 10 ft high walls surrounded the site with thick metal gate to allow cars inside.
Eagle base had been used through out the conflict. It expanded from a small check post to a vast center which was used by Afghanistan’s intelligence agencies to train the anti-terrorism forces. According to former and present office holders, those forces kept on fighting as the government collapsed.
“They were a remarkable unit. They were one of the primary means which Afghan government had been using for 20 years in resistance of Afghan Taliban. They have suffered heavy casualities,” said Mick Mulroy, a former C.I.A. officer who served in Afghanistan.
