Intelligence chiefs of Russia, Iran, China, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan attended a meeting hosted by DG-ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hameed on Saturday in Islamabad. The chiefs of regional countries gathered in the purview of the Afghan situation.
The security situation and the shift of power equation in the region were discussed by the chiefs and DG-ISI briefed them about the prevailing security concerns in the neighborhood.
A week ago, the ISI chief met Hizb-e-Islami head, Gulbaddin Hekmatyar, during his historical visit to Afghanistan, which was also covered by the international media.
The chiefs of the USA and UK also met the Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, regarding the Afghan situation.
The meeting of spy chiefs in Islamabad depicts the crucial and positive-constructive role of Pakistan in the region regarding the Afghan peace process and stability. But according to some credible sources, the ISI chief hosted this meeting of heads of regional intelligence agencies to deliver a clear message to the US and India that Afghanistan will get recognition even if the West opposes them.
