Former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is likely to return to Pakistan in the first week of july to replace Miftah Ismail as finance minister. Being a non-elected cabinet member, Miftah Ismail is appointed for 6 months as per constitution.
Any non-elected member can serve as a part of cabinet for 6 months. In that period, he/she has to contest the elections for parliament or replaced. Therefore, government is in search for a permanent minister for the job.
Ishaq Dar served as finance minister in 1997 and 2013. He was declared proclaimed offender in 2017 by an accountability court. Dar’s lawyers are likely to file a protection bail on Monday.
