In a syndicate meeting held at the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), a momentous decision was made to resurrect the students’ union, as reported in an official statement released on Friday. This significant gathering was graced by the presence of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, who participated in the meeting as a member. The meeting was presided over by the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Professor Niaz Akhtar.
Within the context of this meeting, Vice Chancellor Professor Niaz Akhtar delivered a comprehensive presentation that offered valuable insights into the university’s notable achievements and the persistent challenges it faces.Among the challenges that were addressed, particular attention was given to the long-standing concerns related to land encroachment, which have remained a cause for distress at the university.
Justice Isa underscored the importance of ensuring that the revived students’ union operates as a non-partisan entity, free from divisions based on sectarianism or linguistic differences. He drew attention to the historical precedence of such a union under the earlier legislation governing Quaid-i-Azam University, which regrettably ceased to exist during the initial martial law decree of General Zia-ul-Haq.
Furthermore, Justice Isa emphasized the imperative that the university’s autonomy must be safeguarded, with no external interference in its affairs, and he stressed the need to keep external agencies at bay.
Notably, sources reveal that Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa also championed the promotion of cycling within the Quaid-i-Azam University campus, signaling a commitment to holistic student development and well-being.
