In an interview, Mearsheimer was asked about his opinion on the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. Mearsheimer responded by saying, “Israel is purposely killing Palestinians In Gaza. There’s no way you can kill this many women and children. This is written on the Iron wall that Israel is punishing Palestinians.
Mearsheimer added that IDF spokesperson also admitted that Israel is pursuing a policy of inflicting maximum damage to Palestinians.
Narrative War Since October 7
He also discussed the narrative war since October 7th. He called the events of October 7th as a disaster.
He added that what happened on October 7th exposed the root causes of the conflict. He said,
“When you talk about root causes, you end up talking about how Israel was created. This is not a pretty story how Israel conquered Palestine. This means talking about the occupation.”
He said, “There is no problem of Antisemitism in Gaza, rather it is related to the occupation. He also said that Gaza was not Nazi Germany.
He added Most Americans think that Americans support due to strategic reasons. However, John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt told Americans that there are special interests of Israeli lobby in USA. Here he is referring to one of his most most celebrated book, “The Israeli Lobby And US Foreign Policy, ” co-authored by Stephen Walt.
He said that this is an argument which people in the lobby do not want to hear. Professor Mearsheimer earlier in another address made similar remarks. He said, “Israelis are waging a punishment war in Gaza, punishing Civilians. Israelis are interested in committing Warcrimes.”
It is to be remembered that around 12,000 Palestinians have been martyred by Israeli forces since October 7th. 5,000 of the martyred are Children, and more than 3,000 are women.
