Pakistan Tells Afghanistan to Focus on Its Own Issues

The Pakistani Foreign Office (FO) has issued a stern statement urging Afghanistan to respect the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs. The FO’s response comes after Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid criticized Pakistan’s police crackdown on Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protesters.

The TLP had begun a protest march in Lahore, planning to stage a demonstration outside the US embassy in Islamabad in support of Gaza and Palestine. However, police and law enforcement agencies launched an operation to disperse the protesters, resulting in the deaths of a police officer and four civilians.

Mujahid had expressed condolences over the violence and deaths, stating that the demonstrations were carried out in accordance with Pakistan’s legal framework.

In response, the FO urged Afghanistan to prioritize its own issues and refrain from commenting on matters outside its jurisdiction.

The FO emphasized that Pakistan does not require outside advice on its internal matters and called on Afghanistan to adhere to international diplomatic norms. The statement also urged Kabul to focus on forming an inclusive and representative government, rather than engaging in baseless propaganda. Furthermore, the FO reminded Afghanistan of its obligations under the Doha Process, warning against allowing its land to be used for terrorism against other countries.

Pakistan’s stance underscores the country’s commitment to sovereignty and adherence to international norms, while also highlighting the need for Afghanistan to address its own internal challenges. The situation highlights the complexities of regional dynamics and the importance of diplomatic engagement.
