Balochistan Police Chief Reports Decline In Terrorism

QUETTA: IG Balochistan Muhammad Tahir said on Wednesday that coordinated efforts by the police, security forces and other law enforcement agencies helped reduce terrorist attacks in the province over the past year

.Speaking at a press conference at the Central Police Office on the last day of 2025, the IGP said several attacks were successfully foiled in areas including Gwadar, Quetta, Bagh, Jhal Magsi and Panjgur with support from other security agencies.

DIG Headquarters Hassan Asad Alvi and AIG Operations Capt (retd) Naveed Alam were also present.The IGP said the police force would be further strengthened in 2026 through better planning, modern weapons and specialised training. He added that efforts were under way to improve operational capacity, ensure merit-based recruitment and modernise policing systems.

He said plans were in place to merge the Levies into the police to create a single, well-trained and effective force. A strict crackdown against criminals would be launched in the new year, with special focus on dangerous gangs, repeat offenders and organised crime groups. “There will be zero tolerance for anti-social elements,” he said.

The IGP announced the expansion of the Crime Branch across the province to provide services closer to the public. A new Security Division has been created, and about 1,000 police personnel have been shifted from VIP duties to areas facing staff shortages. The strength of the Anti-Terrorist Force will be doubled from 1,500 to 3,000 personnel.

He said work had started to upgrade 81 police stations, while 30 database centres would be set up by 2026. The Safe City project has been completed in Quetta and will be extended to Gwadar and other areas of Balochistan. Training to counter terrorism is ongoing with support from the Pakistan Army.

Sharing statistics, the IGP said police registered thousands of cases in 2025, arrested large numbers of suspects, and recovered weapons, explosives and significant quantities of drugs during operations across the province.
