Minneapolis Mayor Condemns ICE After Fatal Shooting of Woman
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey issued a fiery condemnation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Thursday, telling the agency to “get the f*** out” of the city following the fatal shooting of a woman by an ICE agent.
The incident, which occurred yesterday afternoon, has sparked nationwide protests and renewed debate over the role and conduct of ICE agents. Former President Donald Trump publicly defended the agent involved, who reportedly shot a U.S. citizen, fueling tensions and anti-ICE demonstrations across the country.
According to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson, the woman allegedly “weaponized her vehicle” and attempted to strike an ICE officer. The department stated that the agent “fired defensive shots” in response. The woman was later identified as 37-year-old U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Good. Local authorities have challenged claims from DHS and Secretary of State Kristi Noem, who described the incident as an act of “domestic terrorism.”
Video footage from the scene, which circulated widely online, shows Good attempting to drive away after officers instructed her to exit her vehicle. The recording also captures an officer firing a shot through the windshield as she moves her car, raising questions about the department’s portrayal of the event as self-defense against a “violent rioter.”
The shooting has reignited scrutiny over ICE operations in Minneapolis and across the United States, prompting calls for accountability and further investigation.
