COLOMBO: Pakistan Test cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has strongly criticised former captain Babar Azam after his poor performance against India national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
Shehzad posted on X and questioned whether Babar’s latest failure could define his T20 future. He suggested that the pressure is mounting on the star batter.
“Babar gone once again. Maybe it was his last dance to prove his worth in this format,” Shehzad wrote.
Babar has struggled for impact in the ongoing tournament. He scored 15 against the Netherlands in the opener. He then made 46 off 32 balls against the USA. However, he failed to convert that start into a big score.
In Sunday’s match against India, Babar scored just 5 runs off 7 balls.
Against India, the 31-year-old has played six T20Is. He has scored 110 runs at an average of 22. His strike rate stands at 123.59. He has registered one half-century.
Pakistan chased a target of 176 in the match. The team came under early pressure. They slipped to 73-5 in 11 overs, with Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan at the crease at that stage.
Sahibzada Farhan fell for a duck to Hardik Pandya. Jasprit Bumrah removed Saim Ayub for six and Salman Ali Agha for four.
Usman Khan led Pakistan’s scoring. He made 44 off 34 balls, hitting six fours and a six.
