Balochistan High Court adopts austerity, energy-saving measures

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court has approved a set of austerity and energy conservation measures following a meeting of its judges chaired by Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mulakhel on Thursday.

The meeting was held after a virtual session of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee, where a seven-point agenda prepared by the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan was reviewed and unanimously endorsed.

According to officials, the measures were adopted to ensure efficient use of public resources amid concerns over potential petroleum shortages and rising global energy costs while maintaining uninterrupted judicial services in the province.

Under the new arrangements, the high court will observe a four-day working week, with regular court proceedings taking place from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, only urgent cases will be heard.

Court staff will attend offices on Fridays and Saturdays on a rotational basis to maintain essential operations.

The decision also applies to district courts across the province, where case hearings will likewise be scheduled from Monday to Thursday as part of the new energy-saving measures.

Earlier, Supreme Court of Pakistan announced a four day work week, joining government’s austerity efforts.
