ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and several Muslim-majority countries have called for restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts to ease escalating tensions in the Middle East, following a series of high-level contacts between their leaders.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held separate telephone conversations with Ilham Aliyev, Anwar Ibrahim, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during which they exchanged Eidul Fitr greetings and discussed the worsening regional situation.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders expressed concern over ongoing hostilities in Iran and the Gulf region and emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy. They also prayed for unity among the Muslim Ummah in the face of growing challenges.
In his conversation with President Aliyev, the premier reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with Azerbaijan and condemned recent attacks targeting the country. Both sides stressed peaceful resolution of disputes and closer coordination for diplomatic resolution of middle east crisis.
During talks with Malaysia’s leadership, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties while supporting diplomatic initiatives to restore stability in the region.
Similarly, discussions with Uzbekistan focused on the importance of restraint and continued engagement, alongside a review of bilateral cooperation following recent high-level exchanges.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz also spoke with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, praising Egypt’s diplomatic role in promoting regional peace. Both leaders agreed to continue efforts aimed at reducing tensions and ensuring stability.
The outreach follows earlier conversations with Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan and Abdullah II, reflecting a broader push by Pakistan and its partners for a coordinated diplomatic response to the ongoing crisis.
