SOUTH WAZIRISTAN — Security forces successfully foiled a suicide attack targeting a military post in the Azam Warsak area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, according to security sources.
Officials said militants linked to Fitna al-Khawarij attempted to carry out the हमला using an explosives-laden vehicle. However, troops intercepted the वाहन before it could reach the installation and destroyed it at a safe distance. The attacker was killed in the operation.
Despite the swift response, at least seven individuals sustained injuries in the incident. The wounded were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana, where they are receiving medical treatment, hospital officials confirmed.
Following the attempted attack, security personnel sealed off the area and initiated a search operation to eliminate any remaining threats.
The incident comes amid a broader surge in militant activity in Pakistan’s border regions, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
Pakistani authorities have repeatedly called on Kabul to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks across the border. However, officials say progress has been limited, with continued concerns over the presence of armed groups operating from across the frontier.
Earlier this year, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq to counter rising threats, following a fragile ceasefire agreed between the two sides in October 2025 after a series of border clashes.
Despite multiple rounds of diplomatic engagement, tensions persist as both countries struggle to reach a consensus on tackling cross-border militancy.
