Islamabad reopens transport, relaxes restrictions, updates business hours

ISLAMABAD: The administration in Islamabad has eased restrictions by allowing all types of public and goods transport to enter the city, while also revising business operating hours, officials said on Saturday.

According to the authorities, bus terminals across the capital have resumed operations, with the exception of the Faizabad Bus Terminal, which will remain closed until further notice.

Public recreational facilities have also been reopened. Hiking trails and major parks, including Daman-i-Koh and Lake View Park, are now accessible to visitors.

In a separate notification, the administration announced amendments to previously issued business regulations. The updated directive, released from the office of Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, extends the closing time for sports facilities and clubs, including gyms, from 8pm to 10pm.

However, shops, markets, and shopping malls are required to close at 8pm throughout the week, including weekends. Essential services—such as pharmacies, hospitals, petrol pumps, CNG stations, and dairy outlets—are exempt from these restrictions.

Meanwhile, restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, tandoors, and food-related businesses will now operate until 10pm. Takeaway and home delivery services will continue without any time limitations.

The notification further states that marriage halls, marquees, and other event venues must also close by 10pm, a rule that applies to private events as well. These measures took effect on April 25 and will remain in place until further orders.

In a related development, the administration in Rawalpindi has reopened all entry and exit points for all types of traffic, including private and commercial vehicles. However, the Pirwadhai General Bus Stand will stay closed for the time being, according to Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema.
