Govt Reduces Defence Budget From 17.6% to 16.3%

It has long been observed that specific and well-known figures are given about Pakistan’s defense budget. Critics of the military say that the military takes 70 or 80 percent of the total budget.

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Shaukat Tareen presented Rs. 8,400 billion federal budget in the National Assembly on Friday. According to the budget, for the fiscal year 2021-22, the total defence budget is 1370 billion rupees. Out of the total budget, only 16% is allocated for defence.

Let’s discuss the details of the defence budget, Rs. 651Bn is allocated for the Pakistan Army,
Rs. 291Bn is allocated for the Air Force and Rs. 148Bn is allocated for the Pak Navy. The allocation is 2.54% of the GDP.

However, Rs.1.29 trillion were allocated for Defence in the budget 2020-21 last year out of the total Rs.7294.9 billion which was 2.86% of the GDP.
