KARACHI: At least three Sindh Rangers personnel were martyred on Saturday when terrorists launched an attack on a local Rangers headquarters in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area, according to Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho.
Speaking to media, the provincial police chief said preliminary reports indicated that three attackers were also killed during the exchange of fire with security forces. He added that the assailants reportedly rammed their vehicle into the facility’s main gate before initiating the attack.
Authorities were initially unable to confirm whether an explosion had occurred as part of the assault. However, heavy gunfire and reports of a blast prompted an immediate response from law enforcement agencies.
A large-scale security operation was launched in the area, with personnel from the Special Security Unit (SSU), Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF), police commandos, and Rangers taking part in a mopping-up operation. The vicinity was sealed off to ensure public safety and facilitate the clearance operation.
According to reports, special police units, including the Rapid Response Force, were dispatched to regain control of the situation and assist in the counterterrorism response.
Rescue 1122 Sindh confirmed receiving reports of an explosion near Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s Block 5 area and immediately deployed emergency teams from its central command and control centre. Chief Operating Officer Dr Abid Jalaluddin Sheikh also proceeded to the site on the directives of provincial authorities.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the incident and sought detailed reports from senior police officials, directing them to investigate the nature of the attack and ensure an effective response.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar also requested a comprehensive report from the Karachi police leadership and instructed officials to submit all available details at the earliest opportunity.
Security operations in the area continued as authorities worked to clear the site and assess the full extent of the attack.
This is a developing story and will be updated once officials update the press about the ongoing developments.
