President Zardari To Depart For official 4-day visit to Kyrgyzstan Today.

President Asif Ali Zardari is set to travel to Kyrgyz Republic on a four-day official visit on Monday on invitation of President Sadyr Zhaparov, the Foreign Office (FO) said.

The president will be accompanied by a high-level delegation for a “landmark” visit, the FO said, adding that it will be the first visit by a Pakistani president to Kyrgyz Republic in 21 years.

The visit comes amidst President Zhaparov’s official visit to Pakistan last December, highlighting the trend of bilateral engagement between the two nations, the FO said.

President Zardari will have a meeting with President Zhaparov at a bilateral level during the visit, which will be followed by a meeting of delegations at a higher level. The two leaders are supposed to discuss bilateral relations in full and exchange their opinions on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The talks will be on how cooperation could be further extended in areas such as trade and investment, energy, mining, agriculture, textiles, halal, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, digital economy, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

President Zardari will also have a courtesy call with Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Marlen Mamataliev.

The FO noted that Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have cherished historical ties, of cultural, historical and religious roots and a desire to foster peace, connectivity and economic development in Central and South Asia.

Both nations are a part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in addition to China, Russia, India, Iran and other regional states, which offers a crucial platform for cooperation on regional security and economic issues.

In addition, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are also partners of the $1.2 billion Central Asia-South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA-1000) with Tajikistan and Afghanistan. The project will be ready to start operations in January 2027. President Zhaparov has also called CASA-1000 an important project for establishing an integrated energy network between Central and South Asia.

In December 2025, President Zhaparov visited Islamabad – the first presidential visit to Pakistan for a Kyrgyz president in 20 years. On that occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had extended an invitation to landlocked Kyrgyzstan to avail Pakistan’s port facilities of Karachi, Port Qasim and Gwadar for access to the international trade markets.

The two nations also inked 15 MOUs in areas of mutual cooperation, including the commerce and energy sectors, healthcare and others.

In August 2025, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan reached an agreement to enhance cooperation in the field of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and digital finance. Both sides affirmed a month ago at a meeting of their intergovernmental commission their intention to boost bilateral trade to $100 million.

These efforts have not succeeded in significantly increasing bilateral trade. The total value of Pakistan’s exports to Kyrgyzstan during the first 10 months of the fiscal year 2025-26 was $3.124 million, which is 7.44 per cent down from the same period of the last year. The value of imports from Kyrgyzstan, however, grew to $626,000, up from $493,000 in the previous fiscal year.
