Legendary American Singer Dolly Parton Dies at 80 Days After Sharing Health Update

Country music icon Dolly Parton, widely known as the “Queen of Country,” has died at the age of 80.

Her nephew, Brian Seaver, announced her death in a video posted on Parton’s official Instagram account on Tuesday, August 25.

Seaver said Parton had asked him years ago to make the announcement when the time came. He described her as his aunt, sister, “Sis” and “Granny,” while informing fans of her passing.

He also said the family’s grief “lies with us, not with Dolly,” adding that she had now been reunited with her husband, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025.

Parton had spoken publicly about her health struggles in recent months. In an interview with People magazine on August 21, she revealed that she had allowed her health to deteriorate while caring for Dean.

Despite her health challenges, Parton reassured her fans that she was recovering and intended to continue working.

Her declining health had forced her to cancel several performances and public appearances over the past year. She also cancelled plans for her Las Vegas residency.

In recent weeks, Parton missed several high-profile events, including the opening of Dollywood’s NightFlight Expedition ride and the ACM Awards, after doctors advised her not to travel.

Parton leaves behind a decades-long legacy as one of country music’s most influential performers, songwriters and entertainers.
