State Bank of Pakistan dismisses reports of Rs10 banknote discontinuation

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Thursday rejected reports circulating on social media that the Rs10 banknote was being discontinued, describing them as baseless.

In a statement, the central bank said reports claiming that the Rs10 note had been withdrawn and that a deadline had been set for its exchange were without substance.

The SBP said it had submitted a proposal for introducing a new series of banknotes, which is currently under consideration by the Federal Cabinet.

It clarified that no decision had been made regarding the replacement or discontinuation of any banknote denomination.

The central bank said any decision to discontinue a denomination would be formally announced through its official channels. It added that the public would be given sufficient time to exchange any banknotes that may be discontinued.

The SBP urged the public to rely only on official communications from the central bank and avoid unverified information circulating on social media.
