India’s captain reaches 200 off just 117 balls as the hosts chase down West Indies’ imposing 405
Shubman Gill has etched his name into the record books again, hammering the quickest double hundred in One Day International history during India’s pursuit of 406 against West Indies in the second ODI.
The India skipper brought up his 200 in 117 deliveries, beating the previous best of 126 balls set by Ishan Kishan. With the feat, Gill becomes only the second batter to score multiple double centuries in the 50-over format. The only other man to do so is Rohit Sharma, who has three.
The knock is also historic for another reason: it is just the second double century ever scored while chasing in an ODI. The first was Glenn Maxwell’s memorable innings against Afghanistan at the 2023 World Cup.
Shubman Gill scored first ODI double came on January 18, 2023, when he made 208 off 149 balls against New Zealand in Hyderabad.
Rohit’s century and a new milestone
Gill was not the only opener to shine. Rohit Sharma struck 101 off 75 balls, and the two put together a commanding 255-run opening stand that set India firmly on course for the target.
Rohit also crossed 12,000 ODI runs during the match, reaching the mark with a single off Roston Chase in the 16th over. He is the seventh batter to get there and only the third Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Among the fastest to 12,000
Rohit is the second-quickest to the milestone by innings, taking 282. Only Kohli, with 242, got there faster. Tendulkar needed 300 innings, Ponting 314 and Sangakkara 336.
By balls faced, Rohit again ranks second, reaching 12,000 runs after 12,973 deliveries, just behind Kohli’s 12,853.
