Indian Officials Evacuate Kandahar Consulate As Afghan Taliban Near To Take Control Of City

India implemented its decision to evacuate its diplomats and officials from the Kandahar embassy as the Taliban claimed to have control of 85 per cent of Afghanistan, reaching the Kandahar city. According to the reports, more than 50 diplomats and staff were evacuated from the Kandahar embassy. Initially, the Indian government tried to engage with the Taliban, but they were not welcomed.

The Taliban are very near to claim the Kandahar city. Keeping in view the security situation and increasing control of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Indian government temporarily pulls out its diplomats from the Kandahar embassy.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Arindam Bagchi, said that Indian officials have been evacuated for the time being given the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan.

According to Bagchi, it was a temporary pull-out. The Indian consulate continues to operate through the local members of the embassy. A special aircraft was sent to bring the diplomats back on Saturday.

However, on Tuesday, four days before the pull-out, the Indian embassy declared the news regarding the evacuation as rumours.

Last week, the Indian embassy asked all Indians in Afghanistan to remain vigilant.
