Pakistan Among The Countries Most Affected By Climate Change – Jemima Goldsmith

British screenwriter and philanthropist, Jemima Goldsmith, tweeted about the ongoing flood crisis in Pakistan. She said that more than 1000 people have been killed and over 200,000 houses destroyed in Pakistan in the catastrophic rains resulting from global climate change despite the fact that Pakistan produces only 1 percent of the global carbon emissions.

Jemima Goldsmith, better known as Jemima Khan in Pakistan, is the ex-wife of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. She has been carrying out philanthropic activities in various countries for the last two decades. Jemima established the Jemima Khan Afghan Refugee Appeal to provide tents, clothing, food, and healthcare for Afghan refugees at Jalozai camp in Peshawar during her stay in Pakistan. She became an Ambassador for UNICEF UK in 2001, and she later helped victims of the 2005 Azad Kashmir earthquake by raising emergency funds. Despite her participation in humanitarian and philanthropic activities, Jemima has at times faced organized protests by Imran Khan’s political opponents outside her London home.

As per the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 1061 people have died, 992,871 houses fully or partially damaged, 727,144 livestock killed and over 33 million people affected so far in the unprecedented catastrophic floods
