The Islamabad High Court (IHC) stated on Tuesday that the notification from August 29, directing jail authorities to keep PTI chief Imran Khan in “judicial lockup” in the cipher case, was declared illegal.
This decision came during the court’s review of an appeal filed by Imran against a previous decision approving Imran Khan’s jail trial in the cipher case. It’s important to note that on August 29, the IHC had suspended Imran Khan’s sentence in the Toshakhana case.
However, a special court established under the Official Secrets Act had instructed jail authorities to keep Imran in “judicial lockup” in the cipher case.
In its verdict, the IHC division bench, including Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, deemed Imran’s appeal acceptable. The court also supported the appointment of Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain, who is overseeing Imran’s trial under the Official Secrets Act.
