ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: Former Cricketers Criticise Pakistan Cricket Team After Defeat To India

COLOMBO: The cricket world reacted strongly after India defeated Pakistan to secure their third straight group-stage win. The match took place on Sunday at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

India batted first and scored 175-7 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan led the innings with 77 off 40 balls. He hit 10 fours and three sixes.

Pakistan failed to chase the target. India’s bowlers applied consistent pressure. Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs. India won the match by 61 runs.

The result sparked heavy criticism from former players and analysts. Former Test cricketer Mohammad Yousuf called for accountability and fresh talent. He said Pakistan’s repeated failures against top teams demand a new approach.

Yousuf wrote that it was time to move on from senior players. He named Shaheen, Babar and Shadab. He said the team needs performers, not wins against weaker sides.

Former opener Ahmed Shehzad criticised team selection. He urged immediate changes before crucial matches. He called Pakistan’s performance pathetic. He also suggested including Fakhar, Nafay and Salman.

Former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja criticised the batting collapse. He said Pakistan have faced the same Indian bowling attack for years. He added that the batting has shown little improvement.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan pointed to India’s mental strength. He said India outperform Pakistan in all departments. He added that India handle high-pressure matches better.

Former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews praised the atmosphere in Colombo. However, he said India were simply too strong on the night.

Test cricketer Abid Ali demanded merit-based selection. He said reputation should not guarantee a place in the team. He urged selectors to pick impact players. He added that fans deserve effort, not excuses.
