A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh on Friday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), with the tremor originating at a depth of 10 km (6 miles).

Shaking was felt across Bangladesh and in neighboring India’s eastern border states, though authorities there reported no immediate damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey identified the epicenter as Narsingdi, located roughly 40 km (25 miles) from the capital, Dhaka.

Residents in Dhaka panicked and ran outdoors as buildings swayed, and several temporary structures collapsed, Reuters witnesses reported.
