Serving Police Inspector Arrested for Allegedly Being Involved In Wife’s Honor Killing

Police arrested the prime suspect, a serving officer, in an alleged honor killing in Karachi’s Shadman Town. SSP Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi confirmed the arrest on Saturday. The suspect allegedly shot his 40-year-old wife at their home on Friday. Police said the incident occurred during a domestic dispute. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting. Police arrested him during a raid on Friday night. Officers recovered the murder weapon from his possession. Authorities said they are further interrogating the suspect and following legal procedures. The suspect is a serving police inspector posted with the Special Investigation Unit.

The SSP said the suspect had married the victim in his second marriage. He believed his wife remained in contact with her former husband. In Pakistan, honor killing continued to claim women’s lives throughout 2024. Deep-rooted beliefs about family honour and shame fuel these crimes. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has repeatedly expressed concern. The commission described honor killing as a serious ongoing issue.
