At least 10 police and security personnel embraced martyrdom while 58 India-sponsored terrorists were killed as security forces repelled coordinated attacks at 12 locations across Balochistan, Geo News said citing security sources on Saturday.
The sources said terrorists linked to Fitna al-Hindustan launched the attacks late Friday night, but timely and effective action by security forces and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) foiled their attempts. Forces are continuing pursuit operations in different areas, and reports suggest further terrorist casualties.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attacks and paid tribute to the security forces for thwarting what he described as “evil intentions” of the militants. He saluted the martyrs, saying the nation was proud of its brave sons and that their sacrifices would always be remembered.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the attacks were neutralised through coordinated action by police and the Frontier Corps. He reaffirmed that such assaults would not weaken the government’s resolve against terrorism.
The latest attacks follow major intelligence-based operations carried out a day earlier, in which 41 Indian-backed militants were killed in two separate engagements in the province. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces eliminated 30 terrorists on the outskirts of Harnai district and another 11 in Panjgur district on January 29.
The operations come amid an uptick in cross-border terrorist activity since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Addressing a press conference on January 6, ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said law enforcement agencies conducted 75,175 intelligence-based operations across Pakistan in 2025.
He said 58,778 of those operations took place in Balochistan, 14,658 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 1,739 in the rest of the country. During the year, 5,397 terrorism incidents were reported nationwide, with 1,557 occurring in Balochistan.
The military spokesperson said security forces killed 2,597 terrorists during counterterrorism operations last year, adding that civilians and soft targets were deliberately targeted in major attacks, with Afghan militants involved in each case.
