PAF Commemorates Seventh Anniversary of Operation Swift Retort at Air Headquarters

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Wednesday commemorated the seventh anniversary of Operation Swift Retort with a ceremony held at Air Headquarters, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Speaking at the event, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu reiterated that Pakistan remains a peace-loving and responsible state but will never compromise on its sovereignty. Reflecting on the events that led to the operation seven years ago, he said the country’s sovereignty had been challenged “under the cover of darkness” by an aggressor that underestimated Pakistan’s resolve and military capability.

The air chief noted that in the aftermath of the episode, the PAF undertook a comprehensive restructuring of its operational doctrine. He said the force incorporated advanced unmanned systems, enhanced electronic warfare capabilities, and strengthened its space and cyber warfare components. The integration of space and cyber domains, he added, has significantly bolstered operational effectiveness.

Referring to developments in May 2025, the air chief said the adversary was met with a decisive and unexpected response. He stated that the PAF successfully shot down advanced enemy fighter aircraft, conducted deep strikes within hostile territory, and neutralised sophisticated air defence systems.

Despite economic and financial challenges, he maintained that the PAF has evolved into a “next-generation air force.” He underscored that safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty remains paramount, describing the PAF as a source of national pride and a steadfast shield of the country’s defence.
