Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering and unflinching” solidarity with Saudi Arabia during a high-level telephone conversation with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as regional tensions escalate following attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure.
The leaders discussed the ongoing hostilities in the region during their call on Monday afternoon, with Sharif specifically condemning the attack on the Al Jubeil oil facility in Saudi Arabia earlier in the day. “Spoke with my dear brother, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince & Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and conveyed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Sharif stated on social media platform X.
Sharif assured the Saudi leadership that the Pakistani people and government “would always stand shoulder to shoulder with their Saudi brothers and sisters,” emphasizing the historical bonds between the two nations. The Prime Minister noted that Saudi Arabia has consistently supported Pakistan “through thick and thin,” referencing the longstanding strategic partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh.
The conversation occurred against the backdrop of escalating regional tensions, with Pakistan having previously expressed “deep concern” and condemned missile and drone attacks carried out by Iran on energy facilities in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region. Pakistan’s Foreign Office characterized these attacks as “a serious violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” that represents “a dangerous escalation” undermining regional stability.
During the call, Sharif also briefed the Crown Prince on Pakistan’s mediation efforts to de-escalate the Middle East crisis, noting that Islamabad is working “assiduously for the success of the peace efforts, in partnership with other countries.” The Prime Minister praised the “wisdom and sagacity” of the Saudi leadership in exercising restraint during the ongoing crisis.
Sharif conveyed his warm wishes to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, underscoring the deep respect Pakistan holds for the Saudi monarchy.
