Sindh govt suspends three Karachi matric board officials over cheating allegations

The Sindh government has suspended three officials of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi following allegations of cheating and administrative irregularities during the ongoing matriculation examinations. The action was taken based on a report from the provincial Ministry of Universities and Boards.

According to an official notification issued by the School Education and Literacy Department, the suspended officials include a deputy controller of examinations, an assistant controller, and a data entry operator. They were allegedly involved in the unauthorized transfer of examination centers and manipulation of staff postings at schools, which compromised the integrity of the examination process.

The development comes amid a broader crackdown on cheating in board exams. Last week, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Karachi Police busted a gang involved in facilitating cheating, arresting four suspects including a cybersecurity student. Police said the gang charged students large sums in exchange for leaked exam papers a night before the test.

Education experts have expressed concern over the recurrence of such incidents, calling for stricter oversight and digitization of examination processes. The Sindh government has assured a thorough investigation and warned of further action against those found guilty of compromising the education system.
